NOTICE REGARDING NEW PRO SE SERVICES AVAILABLE AT CLERK’S OFFICE
In recent years, the court has experienced an increase in the filing of cases by individuals not represented by an attorney, also known as pro se filers. The court has created the position of Pro Se Law Clerk to provide procedural, not legal, assistance to pro se filers. Commencing October 25, 2010, the Pro Se Law Clerk, will be available as a resource to assist pro se individuals filing in the bankruptcy court.
Alesia Dobbins will fill the position of Pro Se Law Clerk as an employee of the Clerk of Court. Ms. Dobbins will be located in the Intake area of the Bankruptcy Court (17th floor) to help pro se filers (both debtors and creditors) with questions and concerns they may have regarding their bankruptcy cases. The Pro Se Law Clerk will only address procedural issues and will not provide legal advice or act as an attorney for pro se filers.
The Pro Se Law Clerk will be available Monday through Friday from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm for walk-in meetings. Pro se filers may also reach the Pro Se Law Clerk by phone at (313) 234-0074 or email at email@example.com.
The Bankruptcy Court strongly encourages all individuals who may consider filing or appearing as a party in a case to retain an attorney. The Pro Se Law Clerk is not a substitute for legal representation.
