Notice Regarding Cellular Telephone Use in the Levin Courthouse
NOTICE REGARDING CELLULAR TELEPHONE USE IN THE LEVIN COURTHOUSE
Beginning on July 17, 2006, trials, hearings and conferences in cases and adversary proceedings assigned to Bankruptcy Judge Walter Shapero will be held on the 10th floor of the Levin Courthouse in Detroit.
Pursuant to United Sates District Court Local Rule 83.31(f), attorneys admitted to practice in Eastern Michigan are permitted to have possession of a cellular telephone in the Levin Courthouse.
That permission is strictly subject to the following conditions:
1. The phone may not be used and must be turned off except in designated areas of the Levin Courthouse; and
2. The phone cannot be initiated, answered, examined or otherwise manipulated while in a courtroom; and
3. The phone may be used for communication only in posted designated areas; and
4. Any camera-like function or audio recording capability of a phone is strictly prohibited except with the specific permission of the court.
An attorney in possession of a cellular phone must show his or her bar card upon entering the Levin Courthouse. The cellular phone may only be used in
attorney conference rooms located on the 1st, 2nd, 7th, 8th and 10th floors.
Bankruptcy practitioners are strongly encouraged to advise their clients that their cellular phones are not permitted in the Levin Courthouse.
